A Note from The Author About The Scottish Folklore Series
Hello friends!
I have had some questions from readers about the inspiration for the Scottish Folklore Series, and I thought I would share it in one space for everyone!
My family is both Scottish and Irish (I could literally dive down the best rabbit holes of my genealogy. It is one of my favorite pastimes, but I will save that for another day)! I grew up with a mix of Celtic traditions, culture, hearing the languages spoken and the stories or folklore you find in these books. One of my favorite tales as a child was the story of the Fairy Flag Lore, and I rediscovered the story during the pandemic while talking to a friend who also grew up with Celtic traditions in their family.
It sparked my deep love for my heritage, and I dove head first into researching every different version of this story that there was. Because the thing with folklore is that it has been passed down in many different variations, and I was fascinated by how storytelling via word of mouth can be used (yes, this will be more prevalent in the next books, but is sprinkled throughout the first one). From there, Caelen opened the door of the realms we see in book one! Being able to become close once again with a part of who I am (and I had lost) has made it feel as if I have come home for the first time in a long time.
Another question I have gotten is why did you call it “The Scottish Foklore Series”? And to be honest, it was because I began talking about this book on my socials in 2020 before the first word was written on the page. I kept referring to it as my next WIP or this new high fantasy that is inspired by Scottish folklore until one day a few readers had just begun to refer to it as the Scottish Folklore Series. The series name began to be recognized as that, and choosing anything else felt wrong! The folklore was what inspired this entire journey, and I wanted to pay homage to it in the title. Just think of it as Caelen and Lochlan’s own folklore they want to pass down!
